NEW ENTRY Zeiler Partners was founded in Vienna in July 2014 by Gerold Zeiler, the former head of the arbitration practice at another Austrian firm, Schönherr (also in the GAR 100 in previous years). He took his entire team with him to the new boutique.
Zeiler regularly serves as an arbitrator, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a former president of the Austrian Arbitration Association. The team, which also includes Lisa Beisteiner and Alfred Siwy, pack years of experience in ICSID and UNCITRAL arbitrations.
The firm’s lawyers have advised high-profile names from several industries, including RWE, Siemens, GE Capital, Thales, Deutsche Bank, and car companies Fiat and Seat.
Zeiler describes the first months of the new practice as “an overwhelming success”. The smaller size of the firm helps to avoid conflicts of interest and allows for more flexible fee arrangements.
It’s already acting for a large German energy group in a €130 million price revision dispute under VIAC rules, and another energy company in a €250 million dispute over the transport of gas.
In additon, the Czech Republic has retained Zeiler Partners to defend it in an investment treaty claim by a UK provider of electronic aids for the blind.

zeiler.partners has been established in 2014. It is a dispute resolution boutique currently comprising of six partners with different specialisations in dispute resolution, four of them concentrating on international commercial arbitration and investment arbitration. Although the firm only was founded in 2014, all partners have considerable experience and are well-regarded specialists in their fields of law. They regularly sit as arbitrators. A special focus of the firm lies on energy and investment arbitration.
