What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Don’t embark on this career unless you genuinely have a passion for international arbitration. There are plenty of people who do, and they will beat you to the top.
If you could change one thing about the system...?
More women in senior counsel roles and on tribunals. It might even help the efficiency and effectiveness of the arbitral process!
What’s been your most memorable moment in a hearing?
In an ICSID arbitration hearing taking place during the 2006 World Cup, accidentally displaying on a PP projector a screensaver with a photo of my two year old nephew wearing an England football shirt. Two weeks later, he was sent an Argentina football shirt by opposing counsel (the Republic of Argentina).
