Edison sells electricity and natural gas to customers and provides energy and environmental services. In 2016, the company updated its brand, the essence of which is: building a low carbon future together. Bolstered by its 130 years of history, Edison aims to become a leading player in the Italian energy sector. It currently operates in Italy, Europe and the Mediterranean area with around 5,000 employees, including those who work for Fenice. With its highly efficient and sustainability portfolio of electric power stations comprised of combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT), hydroelectric plants, wind farms and solar and biomass systems, in 2016, Edison produced 20.4 TWh of electricity, accounting for 7.4% of Italy’s electricity production. In the hydrocarbon sector, the company holds over 100 natural gas and oil exploration and production permits and concessions for 248.4 million barrel of oil equivalents at 31 December 2016. In addition, it imported 14.billion cubic metres of natural gas, equal to 22.5% of total natural gas imports in Italy. Edison is also committed to diversifying natural gas sources and procurement routes to secure the national energy system. It has been a subsidiary of the EDF Group since 2012.
