GAR 100 - 4th Edition

Skrine

21 February 2011

New in 2011. Describing the history of the firm, a senior figure tells how a polo-playing Anglican Englishman, a bridge-playing Presbyterian Scotsman, a piano-playing Roman Catholic Irishman, a beer connoisseur Englishman (religion unknown) and an Ipoh Chinese Methodist combined forces – to raise Skrine & Co from the ashes of an earlier venture, Bannon & Bailey.

Who’s Who Name:
Vinayak P Pradhan

The full-service firm has some 100 lawyers. Arbitrator Vinayak Pradhan is the standout name for international arbitration. He heads the construction and engineering practice, the bulk of whose work concerns arbitration and ADR. A former commissioner for the UN Compensation Commission, he also sits as an arbitrator at ICSID and is a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. One ranking organisation describes Pradhan as “eloquent”, and “extremely bright”, noting he’s in high demand as an arbitrator (The Legal 500). Vinayak Pradhan is going to become president of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2013.

The vice president of the Malaysian Bar, Lim Chee Wee, is another notable name at Skrine. Pradhan and Chee Wee have been appointed to the Port Klang Authority special task force following the PricewaterhouseCoopers-led audit into the Port Klang free zone project. The practice has a partner admitted to the English Bar (Ivan Loo) and another who specialises in cross-border shareholder disputes (Leong Wai Hong).
