- Eduardo Zuleta
Latin Lawyer 250 reports that, while the firms’ respective strengths complemented each other, they both had a strong reputation for dispute resolution. From the arbitration standpoint, the key individual remains Eduardo Zuleta, about whom foreign lawyers are effusive. One recently described him as standing out not just in Colombia but in Latin America. Zuleta is a vice chair of the arbitration committee of the International Bar Association and a vice chair of the recently formed Latin American Arbitration Association. He also sits as an arbitrator and is acting as president of an ICSID tribunal hearing a claim by Spain’s Iberdrola against Guatemala. As well as Zuleta, the firm is home to William Araque, who co-manages the arbitration practice. Ranking organisations put it among the top practices in the country for dispute resolution.
Zuleta rejoined the IBA’s arbitration committee as vice chair for 2011, and helped set up the Latin American Arbitration Association, which was launched at an IBA/ICDR conference in Buenos Aires in November. He was also appointed to another ICSID tribunal to hear an Argentine construction company’s claim against Peru over a terminated highway concession.
