GAR 100 - 4th Edition

Miranda & Amado Abogados

18 February 2011

One of only two Peruvian firms in the GAR 100, Miranda & Amado in Lima is credited by Latin Lawyer as having “shaken up the marketplace singlehanded” since it was founded in 1999.

Who’s Who Name:
José Daniel Amado

It is rare for a major deal or project in Peru to be concluded without some participation on the part of Miranda & Amado lawyers. In international arbitration work, it’s been called on to help Duke Energy in two ICSID claims against the Peruvian government, but also for General Electric, Abengoa, Skansa, Tractebel and Transportadora de Gas del Perú. Many of the firm’s lawyers have studied and worked in the US or UK. The firm and its co-counsel won an US$18 million award for Duke Energy in 2008, which the government is currently seeking to have annulled. Arbitration matters are usually led by one of two partners: José Daniel Amado V and Luis G Miranda Alzamora. Rankings organisations put the firm in second slot for contentious work (behind Bullard Falla Ezcurra) with arbitration at both firms mentioned as a strength.
