Sophie Lamb KC is global co-chair of the international arbitration practice at Latham & Watkins. She is widely acknowledged as one of the leading arbitration practitioners of her generation and was appointed King’s Counsel in February 2018. Ms Lamb sits as arbitrator and has acted as adviser and/or advocate in more than 100 international arbitrations across a range of industry sectors. Her diverse international caseload has included arbitrations in Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States. Many have concerned assets or claims valued in excess of US$1 billion and hard-fought damages phases. She has conducted cases under all of the principal arbitration rules, including the UNCITRAL, LCIA, ICC, SCC, ICSID (including the Additional Facility), WIPO, WIPO Expedited, AAA, VIAC and Swiss Rules. Ms Lamb is also widely recognised for her expertise in international investment disputes. She has counselled investors and sovereigns in numerous investment disputes involving investment agreements, production sharing or concession agreements, double taxation treaties and domestic anti-avoidance laws, stabilisation clauses, national investment laws and mining codes, bilateral investment treaties and multilateral treaties including the NAFTA and the Energy Charter Treaty. She is one of only two United Kingdom members of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, a member of the ICC UK’s Policy Committee and a guest lecturer on international arbitration at several universities.
