Sergio Bermudes

Sergio Bermudes is the founder of Sergio Bermudes Law Firm.He graduated in Law from Guanabara State University LawSchool (re-named State University of Rio de Janeiro) and tooka PhD course in the History of Roman, Canon and PortugueseCivil Procedure, at the University of São Paulo (USP). He is professorof Civil Procedure at the Pontificate Catholic University ofRio de Janeiro; member of the Institute of Brazilian Lawyers, theInternational Association of Procedural Law, the Ibero-AmericanAssociation of Procedural Law, the Brazilian Institute of ProceduralLaw, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Hewas one of the five members of the Commission appointed bythe Brazilian government in 1985 to review the Brazilian Codeof Civil Procedure.He has sat as co-arbitrator and chairman in several arbitrationproceedings and has represented clients in many others.He has also appeared as an expert witness before national andinternational arbitral tribunals and United States courts. He wasappointed judge on the State of Rio de Janeiro Electoral Tribunalfrom 1986 through 1988.He is the author of several books, essays and treatises on awide range of legal issues, published in Brazil and abroad.
