Tanzanian-born Rukia Baruti is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales with legal practising experience in litigation and international arbitration. She regularly sits as arbitrator, both as sole arbitrator and as a member of a panel of three.Rukia is founder and managing director at Africa International Legal Awareness (AILA), a not-for-profit organisation working to build legal professional competence among African practitioners by promoting the study and development of international economic law with a core focus on investment treaty law and investment arbitration. Prior to founding AILA, Rukia practised law at SJ Berwin’s International Arbitration Group in London. She holds the position of vice president of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) Africa Users’ Council. She benefits from experience in the roles of counsel, arbitrator and secretary to the tribunal in arbitrations conducted under various arbitration rules.
