Richard is head of our dispute management team in the Middle East and also head of construction law in that region. He has been a partner with Eversheds for over 20 years. Richard moved to Qatar in early 2014.His specialisms include: construction and engineering disputes under Qatar and English law, where he has managed complex disputes in Technology and Construction court and in arbitration under various rules; alternative dispute resolution, where he has been involved in the settlement of numerous complex disputes; adjudication; and contract negotiation and drafting under a wide range of standard forms and bespoke contracts including FIDIC, NEC, MF1 and IChemE forms.The sectors with which he is familiar include oil and gas, transport (road and rail), energy (conventional and renewables), property development, and food and chemical production.He is regarded by Chambers as a leading individual in Qatar where in the 2016 Chambers Global Directory he is described by clients as ‘having an in depth knowledge of the construction sector, is very user-friendly, very responsive and willing to listen to other views and take them into account’. Earlier editions of Chambers include the following comments: ‘his methodical and tenacious approach to negotiation wins praise from clients’, ‘he is highly regarded in the marketplace for his high quality practice’, and ‘he is tactically astute … offering excellent legal and commercial judgement in his dealings with bespoke contracting and contentious construction issues.’
