Richard Edwards is the co-lead for the global construction disputes practice at DLA Piper. He is recognised by clients and the industry as a leading lawyer in the dispute resolution and arbitration space and has received praise for his construction and infrastructure expertise. Mr Edwards has a particular focus on working with clients in the energy sector, in the context of construction (infrastructure and commercial projects disputes, security of payments disputes and risk advice), transport and insurance risks.
Mr Edwards’s reputation for commercial and technical excellence across a range of contentious construction mandates in the energy and natural resources sector has resulted in him leading one of the largest and most complex ‘bet the farm’ arbitrations to occur in the Australian market. He was the lead partner for a large multi-jurisdictional DLA Piper team acting for a significant construction and engineering joint venture contractor in numerous adjudications and arbitrations – seated in Singapore under ICC rules, arising out of a multibillion-dollar Australian LNG project.
