Joshua Paffey is a partner at Corrs Chambers Westgarth. He is a pre-eminent arbitration specialist and a market leader in the Asia-Pacific region. He is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers and Partners in Dispute Resolution: Arbitration and by The Legal 500 as a ‘leading individual’, and is named in The Arbitration Powerlist: Australia and New Zealand by The Legal 500. Joshua is an executive director of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration and a member of the UNCITRAL National Coordination Committee for Australia’s Working Group III, Expert Advisory Committee for ISDS Reform.
He is instructed by multinational public companies on some of their most sensitive and high-value disputes, including investor–state and bilateral investment treaty disputes. A sample of Joshua’s recent international mandates from leading global corporates include multibillion-Canadian dollar disputes regarding energy infrastructure delivery in Canada, and a circa US$15 billion oil and gas project in the Indo-Pacific region.
As a dual Australian and British citizen who practised extensively in London, Joshua has represented a number of the world’s leading infrastructure and major projects participants, including in the oil and gas, resources, renewables and energy transition sectors. Joshua has also lectured university students on commercial disputes and international arbitration.
