James Spencer

James Spencer is a senior associate in the international litigation and arbitration practice of Watson, Farley & Williams LLP. His expertise is in international disputes involving energy and infrastructure projects. James has considerable experience in the technical aspects of these disputes. He advises parties in relation to international arbitration and commercial litigation including claims brought under treaties (including bilateral investment treaties) and under public international law.James has arbitrated matters under the rules of the ICC, LCIA, VIAC, LMAA, and UNCITRAL, and several regional institutions. He has acted in numerous substantial and high-profile arbitrations, including representing the government of India in the bilateral investment treaty arbitrations concerning the Dabhol power plant, acting successfully for Vivendi and its Polish telecoms partner, Elektrim against T-Mobile, and, more recently, successfully defending Moscow Oil Refinery in a dispute concerning the construction of a polypropylene production facility.
