Franz T Schwarz is the vice chair of the international arbitration practice group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, based in London. He has been involved in over 250 arbitrations and has extensive experience with arbitral practice, procedure and advocacy both in civil and common law systems. He has been described by Chambers and Global Arbitration Review as ‘one of the best advocates in the world’, ‘a real leader in the field’ and ‘a superstar’. Chambers Global 2023 lists Mr Schwarz as the highest-ranked German-speaking arbitration counsel in Europe. He has lectured on international arbitration at Harvard Law School, the London School of Economics, the University of Vienna’ School of Law, Zurich University, the European Institute, the Vienna School of Economics and Johns Hopkins in Bologna, and he frequently speaks and publishes on topical issues of international arbitration. He currently serves as vice president of the International Arbitral Center in Vienna and on the board of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA). Mr Schwarz was awarded the inaugural ASA Prize for Advocacy in International Arbitration in 2010.
