Francisco Rivero is head of the firm’s Latin America business team and former co-practice leader of Reed Smith’s international arbitration group. He advises clients around the world on complex commercial, commodities, construction, energy, joint venture, mining, oil and gas, partnership and renewables disputes. Francisco’s practice focuses on international arbitration and cross-border litigation, with a focus on Latin America. He is licensed in both New York and Texas and regularly advocates in both English and Spanish. A native of Mexico City, Francisco has been involved in multi-jurisdictional litigation and arbitration in and around Mexico throughout his career. His experience in Mexico has touched on all phases of the international project life cycle from the drafting of tailored dispute resolution clauses to enforcing arbitral awards.

Francisco has served as both arbitrator and party representative in ad hoc and administered disputes before international (including the ICC, ICDR, LCIA, and SCC) and regional administrating bodies (such as the AAA, BCC, CANACO and LCC). Francisco is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center, teaching the course, International Risk Management in Energy Projects.
