Carsten Wendler is a partner in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s international arbitration group. He works in the Frankfurt office and specialises in international arbitration with a focus on Europe and Latin America. He has acted as counsel for corporate clients, public entities and states in numerous high-profile commercial and investment treaty arbitration proceedings under the ICC, DIS, ICSID and ICSID Additional Facility rules.
Carsten completed his legal education at the University of Passau and the University of Bonn (Germany), Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) and New York University (NYU) School of Law (United States), where he was awarded an LLM. Carsten also holds a doctorate from the University of Cologne (International Investment Law Centre Cologne). He was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) and the University of Cambridge (Lauterpacht Centre for International Law). He is qualified as a German Rechtsanwalt and as an attorney-at-law in New York. Carsten is the author of numerous articles on international arbitration. He speaks English, Spanish and German.
