Carlos Suplicy de Figueiredo Forbes is currently the President of the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM-CCBC), the most traditional and best well-known arbitral institution in Brazil. For the past two years, he has been investing his time and effort in favour of Arbitration and Mediation best practices, as well as CAM-CCBC’s internationalization. His first term as President of the CAM-CCBC was widely recognized as years of growth and transparency for the institution.Mr. Forbes routinely sits as arbitrator involving civil, commercial, construction and corporate disputes. He also serves as counsel in international and domestic arbitrations, as well as before courts in Brazil with emphasis on complex contracts, restructuring and insolvency and regulatory disputes, with emphasis on telecommunications and energy. He is the senior partner of the litigation and arbitration practice of Mundie Advogados. He holds a law degree from the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro - UERJ (LLB, 1988), post graduate degree in civil procedure law (PUC/SP, 1991) and attended a masters program in civil procedure law (PUC/SP, 1994).He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Distrito Federal, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerais sections) and of numerous organizations, including, the Brazilian Arbitration Committee – CBAr (former Vice President and current member of its Executive Council), the Movimento de Defesa da Advocacia (Advocacy Defense Movement) (former President and current board member), the International Council for Commercial Arbitration – ICCA, the International Bar Association – IBA and the Associação dos Advogados de São Paulo – AASP (São Paulo Association of Attorneys-at-Law).Mr. Forbes is a member of lists of arbitrators in several Arbitral institutions in Brazil and he regularly attends national and international seminars and congresses about arbitration, as participant and speaker.
