Dr Crengut¸a Leaua has acted as counsel in commercial arbitral proceedings under the rules of the ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL, WIPO and the Romania Court of International Commercial Arbitration, attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania. She has also acted as counsel in ad hoc arbitrations under various national laws.
Dr Leaua is a vice president of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, a former member of the ICC Court (2012–2015), a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration, and was a member of the ICC Task Force on Criminal Law and Arbitration and of the IBA Subcommittee on Conflict of Interests in Arbitration. She is a member of the panel of arbitrators of the Romanian Court of International Commercial Arbitration, and a former vice-president of this court (2008–2012). She is a member of the panel of arbitrators of the courts of arbitration attached to the chambers of commerce in Bulgaria, Slovenia and Poland, of VIAC-Vienna and of the WIPO list of neutrals for intellectual property disputes. She was also appointed as arbitrator in cases under the Danish Institute of Arbitration and ad hoc arbitrations.
She has written numerous publications and made numerous presentations in conferences on international commercial arbitration.
Dr Leaua is a graduate of the Faculty of Legal and Administrative Sciences, ‘Lucian Blaga’ University of Sibiu and of the Law Faculty of the Ecological University of Bucharest, and received her licence from the Law School of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi. She has a PhD magna cum laude from Bucharest University on corporate litigation. She is an associate professor in business law at the Bucharest University of Economics and a visiting professor on comparative international commercial arbitration law and construction arbitration law at the Bucharest University Faculty of Law.
She is fluent in Romanian, English and French, and has a good command of Italian and basic grasp of German.
