HKIAC to seek licence to administer cases in Russia

A Russian deputy minister of justice told delegates at GAR Live Moscow that the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre will apply to become the first foreign institution licensed to administer arbitrations in Russia – as amendments to the country’s arbitration law take effect later this month.

The ICC International Court of Arbitration has released updated guidance on the conduct of arbitration under its rules – seeking to assist arbitrators with disclosure of potential conflicts, facilitate the constitution of tribunals and enhance transparency among other goals – and adapted its model clause to take account of a controversial judgment in Russia.

AIAC director resigns after arrest in corruption probe

Sundra Rajoo has resigned as director of the Kuala Lumpur-based Asia International Arbitration Centre after being arrested on suspicion of corruption – but it is unclear whether the investigation will continue after a court accepted he is protected by diplomatic immunity.

Malaysian centre works with authorities to clear director of corruption

The Asian International Arbitration Centre in Kuala Lumpur has said it is cooperating with the Malaysian authorities to disprove “spurious and erroneous” allegations that the centre’s director, Sundra Rajoo, used funds granted to the centre by the government to obtain favours from ministers – including the extension of his employment contract.
