Mr Ochiai is a partner at Atsumi & Sakai and an attorney (Bengoshi) admitted in Japan (2006). He has extensive experience in acting as counsel and as an arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations (including ICC, CIETAC, and JCAA), involving a wide array of issues. He has also been actively involved in cross-border litigation and insolvency cases related to a number of jurisdictions, including Japan, the PRC, the United States, Hong Kong and Korea.
Mr Ochiai is a Vice-Chairperson of the steering committee of the Arbitration Center of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association, a Deputy Director-General of the Japan Association of Arbitrators, a member of the steering committee of the Young Japan Association of Arbitrators (YJAA), and a member of the dispute-settlement committee of the Trust Companies Association of Japan.
Mr Ochiai has spoken at numerous domestic and international seminars and conferences on arbitration, dispute resolution, and restructuring and insolvency.
He has also co-authored a number of relevant publications, including “Training Material for International Arbitration Practice,” published by Shinzansha Publisher Co Ltd, and “Using CIETAC to resolve disputes: what you need to know when doing business in China,” published by Shunkan Keirijouhou, and has translated the IBA Guidelines for Drafting International Arbitration Clauses into Japanese for the IBA website.
Mr Ochiai holds a BS from Keio University (2004).
